the way of the dodo

The automobile industry didn’t want to spend the money to re-configure to build smaller more fuel-efficient cars and America lost jobs to foreign carmakers.

The timber industry didn’t want to spend the money to re-tool their mills to metric measurement so America lost jobs as the logs were shipped out uncut.

Washington state politicians won’t spend money to invest in alternative fuel sources such as wind and wave power so every year we pray for snow in the mountains and pay ever-increasing fuel costs.

Washington state politicians could enact legislation that would permit us to self-insure health care professionals and public and private nursing homes and stop the hemorrhage; but they won’t.  It’s too simple.

An open letter to all political candidates:

I want to know how you can offer yourself as a candidate to represent American citizens when you do nothing but make false promises.  We need people elected to represent Americans to represent the needs of Americans.

We need American businesses not to receive tax benefits by outsourcing American Jobs.  We need social services, medical benefits, and education to be available only to American citizens.

Stop lying about what you’re going to do for us just to get elected.  We don’t need you to “do” anything.  Just keep the government running on budget, enforce existing laws, and protect us from enemies, without and within, we’ll do the rest.

Scandal taints top brass

Scandal taints top brass

The Abu Ghraib prison atrocities are the sole responsibility of those soldiers who did them.  They should have been turned over to the Iraqi Government for prosecution.

Every soldier who goes through basic training is taught what to do when confronted with an order they believe to be illegal or wrong.  We were taught to ask the officer to repeat the order.  This is the clue to the officer to rethink the order.  We were also taught about the Nuremberg trials and that claiming to be “just following orders” is not a legal defense for criminal behavior.  Any soldier not wanting to take an Article 15 for refusing to obey an order they believe to be wrong doesn’t belong in the military.  I risked an Article 15 and reduction in pay for an order that I refused to obey when I thought it wrong.  I was later vindicated and the officer was punished.

It ain’t a political issue it is a moral and ethical issue and the soldiers involved came up short on both.

Troop Withdrawal

The plan by President Bush to withdraw troops from Europe and Asia is a sound idea for two major reasons:  treasure and time.  The money saved on housing troops and dependents on foreign soil can be kept at home and we have the capability of moving our troops faster than we did when NATO was formed April 4, 1949 thus mobilizing troops from a single country (USA) is faster and requires no permission for use of airspace.

Dumb Down

We’ve dumbed down our school system so children can pass. We’ve dumbed down the drivers licensing requirements so people don't have to bother learning the language of the country they live in.  We’ve dumbed down employment requirements so the disenfranchised can be employed.  Why not dumb down the election process with bright pictures so the illiterate can determine our lawmakers and leaders.

Fate caught up with me when I looked my boss in the eye and told him it was the year 2002 in the United States of America when he told me to make coffee.  After that it went down hill.  Terminated for cause – insubordination.  Hell hath no fury like a boss who has just been ‘dissed’.  Everything was liquidated while I tried to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up.  Rough year while I fought the tides of financial ruin………

Seattle and I have both learned to survive the slings and arrows of misfortune.  But Seattle needs to remember who provides the funds for their many politically correct expenditures.  It isn't the undocumented aliens sending millions south each year while drawing on social services.  Seattle elected leaders need to get their collective heads out of their rectums and stop providing a free ride for the drunk and drugged and illegals standing on the corners of downtown Seattle.
